Tunes Tuesday: Joshua Radin.

Joshua Radin is one of those artists that when you hear his songs you think to yourself I know this song where did I hear it. He has been featured on many tv shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs. He is also one of my most favorite singer/songwriters of all time. His voice is like honey. I have seen in him concert more than I have seen any other artist. Plus it doesn't hurt that he's pretty easy on the eyes, eh?

These are two of my very favorite songs from him. Both are from pretty early in his career. Give them a listen and tell me what you think. I think you'll recognize the second one as the song feautured in the Dear John trailer. He sings it with ex-girlfriend Schuyler Fisk, whom is also amazing. xoxo

They're pretty good. I found them while I was on a desperate search for new music at work one day. I could listen to "Generator First Floor ^" over and over again. Give them a listen and tell me what you think. xoxo.

Tunes Tuesday: Cover 2.0.

It’s been a year since the last time Tunes Tuesday did a cover feature. Covers are some of my most favorite music. I love when people take something that has been heard so many times and make it something completely different. These are some of my favorites that I discovered or rediscovered this year.

It was the best-selling album in the United Kingdom in 2008 with 1.68 million copies sold. The album was certified several times Platinum and sold over 7 million copies worldwide, spawning the hits "Mercy" and "Warwick Avenue". With "Mercy", Duffy became the first Welsh woman to achieve number-one on the UK Singles Chart since Bonnie Tyler topped the charts with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in 1983.

In 2010 she completed recording of her second album Endlessly that was released on 29 November and made her acting debut in the film Patagonia. In February 2011 it was announced that Duffy would take an extended hiatus from music before beginning work on her third album.

Love her she’s amazing. What’d you think? xoxo.

Tunes Tuesday: The Lumineers.

The Lumineers
Thanks! Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lumineers are an American folk rock band based in Denver, Colorado. The core band consists of Wesley Schultz on guitar and lead vocals, Jeremiah Fraites on drums, percussion, mandolin and vocals, and Neyla Pekarek on cello, mandolin, piano, and vocals, with added musicians for tours. Their self-titled debut album was released on Dualtone Records on April 3, 2012, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart.

History

Schultz and Fraites started writing songs together in the Fall of 2005. Originally based in Ramsey, New Jersey, they later relocated to Denver, where they met Pekarek after posting a Craigslist ad for a cellist.[3] In the Spring of 2011, they signed a management deal with Onto Entertainment managers Christen Greene and David Meinert, recorded an album in Seattle at Bear Creek Studio with producer Ryan Hadlock (mixed by Kevin Augunas) and then passed up major label offers to sign a deal with independent label Dualtone, who then licensed the album to Dine Alone Records in Canada, Inertia in Australia, and Decca for the rest of the world.

The Lumineers' popularity continued to build in 2012 with sold-out shows and favorable reviews for their self-titled debut album. The Lumineers was released on April 3, 2012 on Dualtone Records and went on to peak at number 14 on the Billboard 200 chart. As of August 8, 2012, the album was No. 14 on Billboard's Overall Current Chart, No. 1 Folk, No. 2 on the Indie Chart (where it peaked at No. 1 the prior week) and No. 3 on the alternative album chart and No. 10 on the overall digital chart. Of the album's success, Schultz told American Songwriter that "It's really arbitrary to any of us, especially to Jer and Neyla and I... because we've never really had an album out in this way... I'm really thrilled, but I also take it with a grain of salt... I think basically, I feel really lucky because I know how fickle the business, the industry is."

On June 14, 2012, the album's first single "Ho Hey" debuted at number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, their first song to do so. In its second week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it jumped from number 90 to number 73. "Ho Hey" later peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it their first Top 40 single, and as of August 8, had sold 505,000 copies. By June 23, "Ho Hey" hit No. 1 at commercial Triple A radio, where it has spent 8 weeks, and was quickly moving up the commercial Alternative radio chart.

The group tours July/August 2012 with Old Crow Medicine Show (supporting their new album Carry Me Back), The Milk Carton Kids, and Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three. The tour visits such cities as: Louisville, Cincinnati, Nashville, Richmond, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York,Boston, and Atlanta.

Musical style

Fraites emphasizes the simplicity of the group's style . .
"We’re not reinventing the wheel or doing anything that different, the songs are super simple. The ideas themselves are very simple ideas. Anyone who can play an instrument can play a Lumineers song I think there’s a certain cinematic aspect of our music that I really like."

Aren’t they fantastic?! xoxo.

Tunes Tuesday: Call Me Maybe.

Any day anytime ZEfron....
I know you've all heard it and probably hate it but I simply can not get enough of it. It's already played on my itunes 23 times. What is it about pop music that is catchy? My poor boyfriend is ready to scratch his own eyes out if I play the song one more time but I just can't help it. Plus have you seen the ridiculously adorable video of Selena Gomez (LOVE HER), Justin Bieber, and Ashley Tisdale. It's amazing. xoxo

Tunes Tuesday: Mandy Moore.

Yes the pop princess Mandy Moore... are you over it now? Good. If you've heard any of the music she has released in the last ten years you would know how amazing of a musician she has become. Her lyrics are incredible meaningful and beautiful. She is pretty much the love of my life. I would recommend anything off of Coverage, Wild Hope, or Amanda Leigh, they are all fantastic albums... I think Wild Hope is my favorite. Check her out and let me know what you think.  PS Mandy I'm pretty sure its time to come up with a new album. xoxo
A cover of Umbrella by Rihanna that is to die for.

My favorite song from Coverage. Have A Little Faith in Me by: John Hiatt.

I have been singing this one all day today. I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week from Amanda Leigh.

Of course a classic. Only Hope from A Walk to Remember.

This is my favorite of all time. Most of Me from Wild Hope.

Tunes Tuesday: Buddy Holly.

Buddy Holly
America’s Original Hipster
Who loves Buddy Holly? This girl. I will admit before it was a mere admiration of how adorable he was and how well he wore those black wayfarer glasses (first I might add), but once I listened to Rave On: A Tribute to Buddy Holly, I realized how much of his music that I loved and had no idea who sang it. To me they were just classic songs from the 50’s and 60’s and the artists weren’t that important because it was just a song I heard on the radio every once and a while but now that I know they’re Holly tunes they will be getting a lot more play on the old itunes. His songs can go quickly from light and cute to deep and heartfelt. He really was a great musician.

Tunes Tuesday: You and I.

I'm still pretty tired so I apologize for this being a little short. This week I fell in love with the song "You and I" sung by Lady Gaga. I'm not usually a huge fan of Gaga but this is such a fun song with a driving melody. Thanks to RIB (Ryan, Ian, Brad) with Glee for introducing it in this season's mash up episode. It's a great song for driving around with your windows down and dancing around while getting ready for work.

Gaga's Version

Glee Mash Up

Wilco and Feist
Ok you caught me this is a different "You and I" but its one of Matt and I's songs so I just HAD to sneak it in there for ya.

As always suggestions are more than welcome.

Tunes Tuesday: Moon River.

Todays Tunes Tuesday is actually Wednesday. Sorry about that. Yesterday was kind of crazy. My old roommate Jesse came into to town for a bit and so I lost track of time and before I knew it Matt was home, so I thought I would wait until today when I could actually put time into the post.
When I was cruising the blogosphere this weekend I was really taken back by the Honey Trees cover of "Moon River." It is one of my favorite songs and it is cover quite often but something about this particular cover really stuck me as beautiful. I found in on one of my favorite blogs, Her Library Adventures, a must read if you don't already. After listening to the song quite a few times I decided that Moon River would be the theme for Tunes Tuesday this week.
The tune was originally written in 1961 for the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, another must, if you haven't see this movie watch it. It's fantastic, although I recommend reading the short story by Truman Capote first, as I actually enjoyed it more. However since Breakfast at Tiffany's it has been covered by many artists, here are a few of my favorite covers:
The Honey Trees
Sophie Madeleine
Louis Armstrong
Andy Williams
Audrey Hepburn (Original)

Which is you favorite? What would you like to see as the next Tunes Tuesday?
